Welcome to the Pumphouse Theatre’s Quenten Doolittle Memorial Gallery and the first exhibit of the 2021/2022 season – Eye on Society. We are pleased to feature the creative and varied work of twenty-two visual artists from a wide range of backgrounds and styles of work, all of whom identify as emerging artists – less than 5 years of professional experience. The Pumphouse Theatre’s ongoing goal is to provide a venue for increased exposure to local artists, and in doing so, provide an enhanced experience for our theatre patrons. It is an honour to host these innovative artists on this new online platform. If you are interested in purchasing a piece, please contact Kelly Malcolm, Programming Director, at firstname.lastname@example.org
For this exhibit, we are looking for work that speaks to a social issue – from poverty to racism to gender inequality and beyond. Social issues often spark a number of negative emotions. Some can make us feel angry, some can make us feel sad but the artists in our exhibit took their emotions and turned them into works of art. Several subjects in this exhibit are not easy to talk about and we thank each and every one of the artists for sharing their visions of these social issues!
