Fiona Macelli

Fiona is a self-described “not young” emerging visual artist. She has been a professional designer of instructional media and resources, primarily for the web, for most of her career. A recent disability has encouraged her to rekindle non-digital artistic passions and she is now seeking to emerge as a professional artist, drawing upon a long-suppressed passion for painting, ceramics, and furniture crafting. 

Fiona’s painted work typically explores themes of place and character, often seeking to express the character of a place, real or imagined, through colour, pattern, and texture. The process of her work is one that seeks to balance control and spontaneity. Textures and the interplay of materials and colours allow the medium to express itself. The small details inherent in these 

surfaces are impossible to create intentionally; they must instead be enabled to emerge. Structured patterns are often submerged within the piece through the integration of fabrics, printed patterns, or text.
