Inspired from his unique experience as a Chinese international student, Calgary based artist Eric Chen is interested in the sensibility of traditional Chinese culture. The comparison between Chinese culture and Canadian context questioned him the relevancy of traditional Chinese culture in a contemporary world. His works expresses the essence of Chinese culture in a different context by using vague visual and gestural brush strokes; in a contemporary world filled with uncertainty, a body of traditional philosophy is what defines a culture.
