Tancred Thomas

Tancred is a Calgary-based emerging artist whose work centers on the delicate and expressive possibilities of hand-cut paper. Through intricate papercutting, Tancred creates quiet narrative scenes that explore femininity, symbolism, and the emotional landscapes that exist between stillness and transformation.

Figures frequently appear within their work as symbolic presences—sisters, solitary women, or myth like forms—situated within celestial or natural environments. These compositions draw from folklore, ritual imagery, and the visual language of mythology, suggesting stories of resilience, memory, and shared experience.

Working slowly and entirely by hand, Tancred embraces the inherent fragility of paper as both material and metaphor. Fine lines and negative space become structural elements that shape the emotional tone of each piece, inviting viewers to look closely and discover layered meanings within the work.

An emerging artist, Tancred’s work has been exhibited in Calgary and collected privately
