Heide Enzmann is a self-taught artist based in Calgary. Born and raised in Alberta, Heide has lived in France, Calgary, and Montreal, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Cultural Studies and Film from McGill University. Heide also has an education degree from the University of Alberta, and she taught French Immersion for 20 years in Grande Prairie. Unable to continue work after a kidney transplant, Heide began making art as a way to heal and cope with the daily pain and fatigue of Fibromyalgia. Heide likes to explore and play with various mediums, and the act of creating brings light and positivity into her life. Her paintings have been shown and auctioned at a number of art galleries in Grande Prairie. Heide is inspired by color and the bold gestural strokes of the Abstract Expressionists and Color Field paintings. Her alcohol ink paintings are bright, vibrant, and highly energetic. Her work reflects her love and reverence for nature, as she often depicts organic shapes, imaginative flora, and dynamic free-flowing color combinations. Heide feels the spiritual aspect and connection to the Divine when she is creating. She sees art as a sacred pursuit that opens channels of communication with the subconscious, the Universal Consciousness, and the hidden aspects of the self.
