Isabel Martins

Isabel Martins is an interdisciplinary artist whose work spans performance, visual art, and creative research. With a background in theatre, sculpture, and community-engaged art, her practice often explores how overlooked spaces and objects can be reimagined through play and attention. She holds a Master of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Creation and Research from the University of Calgary and has contributed to both the arts and animal welfare sectors in Canada, experiences that continue to shape her way of seeing.

For the Little Pleasures exhibition, Isabel turns her attention to the ground beneath our feet. The work invites viewers to reconsider what they pass by without notice and asks what happens when we give value to the small and fleeting. The photographs capture scuffs on pavement and stains left by weather and time. What may look at first like random shapes often suggests hidden characters that seem to appear underfoot. Isabel’s practice reminds us that pleasure can be found in the act of noticing and in the curiosity of looking again, turning the smallest details into reminders of how alive the world really is.
