KARI LAGON

Kari Lagon (b. 1982, Manila, Philippines) is an emerging visual artist whose work bridges the realms of shadow and light, crafting evocative landscapes that echo the resilience of the human spirit. Based in Calgary, she holds a BSc.in Chemistry from the University of Calgary. After over a decade excelling in supply chain management, she made the life-altering decision in 2024 to pursue art full-time, channeling her vision into a practice both deeply personal and universally resonant.

Drawing inspiration from the works of J.M.W. Turner, her paintings are imbued with the raw emotion of stormy skies and radiant horizons, reflecting her journey through anxiety and depression. Each piece is a visual narrative of perseverance—a confrontation with darkness and an ode to the indomitable light that refuses to be extinguished. Her art gives form to the unspoken struggles that unite us, reminding viewers of their shared humanity.

In her debut year, Kari Lagon’s work garnered immediate acclaim. Her paintings sold in Calgary, Cochrane, and Vancouver in late 2024, and she participated in notable exhibitions with ArtSpot YYC, Route 22 Artist Collective Gallery, the Leighton Art Center, and the Federation of Canadian Artists Gallery. She was also awarded 2nd place in the 2024 Calgary Stampede Arts and Crafts Competition in the Painting, Pastels Class, a powerful affirmation of her emerging talent and evocative storytelling.
