Gakz (She/Her) is a queer Black woman artist originally from Kenya and now living authentically in Canada. Her paintings explore the intersections of identity, resilience, and emotional truth, drawing deeply from her lived experiences as well as her African heritage. Gakz uses bold colours and symbolic imagery to tell stories of strength, vulnerability, and belonging, creating art that opens conversations around healing, memory, and the fullness of human experience. Her paintings merge personal truth with universal themes of resilience, love, and loss, inviting viewers to pause, feel, and connect with the layers of the human story.
“I paint resilience, memory, and truth through the lens of queerness and Black identity. Each piece is a reflection of my lived experiences, heritage, and the power of healing.”
