Riley Klay Ridgway

Riley Klay Ridgway was first inspired to paint by their kindergarten teacher who appreciated their talent from an early age. They continued to dabble in art and recently have taken to painting multiple times a week, trying new approaches and gaining new skills. Their newest work reflects a courageous inner expedition of gender exploration and self-acceptance. In the face a disapproval, they chose their own humanity and dignity over the comfort and ease of others. Their art depicts a self-confidence that came as they upheld their identity, and found the strength to openly identify as non-binary. Drawn to the robustness, flexibility and brilliance of acrylic paint, Ridgway expresses their journey through colour and form. While many of their paintings employ the purple, yellow, black and white of the non-binary flag, and the blue, pink and white of the trans flag, they paint landscapes of nature, secluded cabins and the occasional abstract ideas. Through art, Ridgway proudly proclaims their story, and invites others to find joy in their own journeys.
